Wide-eyed discovery

Now the clocks have sprung forward, I have enjoyed two early'ish morning runs, although I haven't had to revert to the old head torch again, yet.

Yesterday, I went out for a quite pacey (for me) five-miler, which was fantastic.

I saw my four-month-old granddaughter on Saturday for the first time in about five weeks. My, how they change so quickly when they're that little!

What really struck me was how wide-eyed and attentive, although often very briefly, babies are at that age.

Compare that with how narrowly us adults usually look at things, judging, interpreting, writing off or thinking we already know.

How refreshing it would be if we all looked with such wide-eyed and attentive eyes, ears and feelings, suspending our judgements, interpretations, and our thinking that we already know.

We might well discover something new...

Gooey and idealistic

Back home again and a couple of miles under my belt in the fog this morning. I quite enjoyed the eerie feeling of running in the fog in the dark with the strange glow that my head torch created.

I have discovered from Daniel Pink's book that apparently I am a Type I and my "behaviour promotes greater physical and mental well-being. So that's good, isn't it.

It was funny how yesterday morning I posed the question, "Is it because I'm an idealist and lack realism?"

Later in the day I discovered that Mr Pink thinks I don't lack realism, which is also very reassuring.

He says, "Some might dismiss notions like these as gooey and idealistic, but the science says otherwise. The science confirms that this sort of behaviour is essential to being human - and that now, in a rapidly changing economy, it is also critical for professional, personal, and organisational success of any kind."

So, it looks like I might be on the right track after all. :oD

Connection

Early (5.45) one this morning as I had my regular monthly business breakfast meeting.

Still drizzly, but not raining as hard as yesterday.

I've also found out that my headtorch works much better with a woolly hat on than with a peaked cap. I have to balance the rain in the eyes versus ability to see the path or road ahead. When I run on a fair amount of path or "unmade up" road, I think the rain in the eyes is a small sacrifice.

I really enjoyed the business breakfast meeting this morning. It's tough to get up even earlier than usual, but it more than compensates by meeting loads of friendly people and having a laugh.

With a run to kick it off, I can recommend it as a great way to start the day.

Yesterday, apart from my early morning run in the dark, I worked from my office at home and didn't venture outside.

I love to have connection with people, with fresh air and with natural light.

Back in the dark

My first early morning (pre 7am) run this morning as school is back and so is work.

It was hard to get out of bed, but fine after I'd had some tea and written my journal.

I really must replace the batteries in my head torch, as it was tricky running up the sludgy mud on the first hill on my anti-clockwise short route, because I couldn't see clearly enough in the dark.

Went to see my daughter performing in the panto Aladdin in Colchester last night, which was great fun again (2nd time).

Looking forward to the first full week of 2011.

Now to sort out what I want to achieve this week.
